Sound Theory Urban Development Youth Outreach, also known as Project STUDYO, is a nonprofit organization that invests in children who have an interest in music entertainment, recording arts, radio, writing, and/or music production in the Washington, DC region. The program allows participants the ability to gain knowledge while making music and receive mentorship from adults with common interests and expertise. We encourage creative writing, music production, and song creation as a means of expressing emotions, inner thoughts, and connecting with peers and your community.
The founders of Project STUDYO, Lance Matthews and Alex Bradley, have over 15 years of producing, recording, and engineering experience. Both Matthews and Bradley graduated from Morgan State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunications respectively. Project STUDYO was founded by Matthews and Bradley with the intent to invest in children who have an interest in music entertainment, recording arts, radio, writing, and/or music production in the Washington, DC region as well as uplifting disconnected and at-risk youth.
Project STUDYO’s program was running in conjunction with the Department of Juvenile Service’s Evening Reporting Center (ERC) every Monday since 11/2015 to 5/2018 at our studio in Landover, MD. This program has sparked the interest of young adults to become involved in recording arts, music education, and seek careers in the music industry. As a result we have decided to implement this program to the youth of our community starting 2019!
"I’ve found that no matter what life throws at me, music softens the blow." -Bryce Anderson
